EXPERT FACIAL CORRECTIVE SURGERY

EARLOBE REPAIR

Consider advanced, natural-looking results from earlobe repair surgery. Trust Washington DC’s Leading Facial Expert, Sheilah A. Lynch, MD. Specializing in cosmetic facial correction procedures, Dr. Lynch has decades of training and thousands of surgeries worth of experience.

As self-expression trends have evolved, earlobe repair surgery is a restorative solution for patients looking to reshape their earlobes. Whether the damage is due to heavy earrings, trauma or body modifications, trust Dr. Sheilah A. Lynch to help you with these issues.

What is earlobe repair surgery?

To repair stretched or torn earlobe, Dr. Lynch can perform a simple procedure under local anesthesia, usually lasting less than an hour. She will remove the stretched area of the skin and then stitch the earlobe back together to create the natural contour of your ear. The small incisions are skillfully hidden within the natural folds and creases of your ear, so the scar can be minimized with three layers of repair.

Earlobe repair can be a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure to correct tears, elongation, or damage to the earlobe. Candidates for earlobe repair include patients with the following conditions:

Split or Torn Earlobes

*Caused by trauma, such as snagged earrings or accidental pulling.

*Can result in a complete or partial tear.

Stretched Earlobes

*Often due to heavy earrings or gauges that have overstretched the earlobe tissue. Includes patients wanting to reverse the effects of body modifications like stretched earlobe piercings.

Keloid or Scar Revision

*People with noticeable scars or keloids from previous piercings or injuries.

* Patients looking for both functional and appearance improvement.

Elongated Piercing Holes

*Caused by wearing heavy earrings, leading to thinning or stretching of the piercing site.

Trauma from Accidents

*Blunt or sharp force injuries resulting in damage to the earlobe.

Unhappy with Previous Procedures

*Patients who are unhappy with prior earlobe repair surgeries or cosmetic results.

Congenital Earlobe Deformities

*Patients born with earlobe abnormalities are looking for correction for aesthetic or functional reasons.

Dr. Lynch can fix stretched earlobes, restoring them to a more natural appearance.  She will remove excess skin and suture the remaining tissue to create a smaller, more natural-looking earlobe. It's generally a simple, outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia in her office.

Causes - The weight of earrings can cause your earlobes to tear, and the size can cause stretching that cannot be self-repaired. But earrings aren’t the only cause of earlobe damage, it can also be caused by gauges, age, injury or a bad facelift causing sagging, or an unnatural appearance. Earlobe repair surgery can help patients who are unhappy with the look of their earlobes.

Post-surgery, the recovery process is relatively swift, with minimal downtime. Essential aftercare instructions generally include:

  • Keeping the area clean and dry
  • Avoiding pressure or trauma to the earlobes
  • Following the surgeon’s guidelines for suture removal and follow-up appointments

After several days, our patient care team will remove dressings from the earlobes, and healing is usually complete after several weeks. After several months of healing, one of our non-surgical experts will re-pierce your ears with a sterile medical technique.
