Recognized as one of the Best Face / Necklift Surgeons In Maryland, Sheilah A. Lynch, MD specializes in deep plane face lifts and has been awarded TOP DOCTOR for many years in both the Washingtonian & Bethesda Magazines.
A deep plane facelift avoids the tight, overfilled look of many past facelifts. The main goal of this procedure is to lift only under the muscle layer, leaving the skin attached to the muscle layers so it will not look too tight. Also, the cheeks are lifted by releasing the tethering points of your face in the deep plane, so adding fat or filler is optional.
Consider a consultation with Maryland’s Expert Facelift Surgeon, Dr. Sheilah Lynch. She uses advanced facelift techniques to provide you with results that will appear completely natural. When people notice your refreshed appearance, it will be without the evidence of surgery.
Generally, a facelift procedure is very different for patients in their 40s versus those in their 60s. The techniques used will depend on the laxity of their skin and the condition of the deep layers of the skin. Choosing the option of facelift surgery to address many of the concerns related to aging, starts by removing excess skin from your face and neck, restoring skin elasticity, tightening facial tissue, and smoothing wrinkles and folds.
A deep plane facelift is facial surgery where the SMAS layer of connective tissue underneath the facial skin, is lifted and repositioned to tighten the cheekbones, jawline, and neck areas of the face.
A deep plane facelift will create tighter skin, redefine your facial features, and reduce elasticity of neck skin. When considering the different types of facelifts today, the deep plane facelift is the most effective – providing the best results that can make our patients look 12-15 years younger.
A deep plane facelift replaces your facial fat (fat transfer) to restore the volume in your upper cheeks while removing unnecessary fat from the lower face. This facial surgery both removes sagging facial skin while elevating the facial volume (fat and muscle), restoring a youthful, heart-shaped appearance to your face, giving you the results and confidence you want.

Patients for a deep plane facelift typically include those who wish to refresh or correct the signs of aging in their face and neck, such as sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and loss of youthful contours. Most have:
Visible Signs of Aging
It's important to note: a facelift doesn't treat lip lines, deep wrinkles, creases at the corners of your mouth, or folds at the corners of the nose. A facelift also does not correct the eye area or lift the brow above the eyes.
A deep plane facelift is a more extensive surgery targeting facial muscles deep into the SMAS layer for a more dramatic result. The entire SMAS layer is lifted by releasing the deep ligaments and then they are repositioned to a higher level without putting too much tension on the skin. The deep plane facelift lifts your lower face, the midface area, including the cheeks, abd neck to create a very youthful and natural appearance.
Anesthesia
You’ll be given anesthesia to make your comfortable.
Incision Placement
Incisions are typically made in inconspicuous areas:
*Along the hairline at the temples.
*Around the ear, continuing behind the earlobe to the lower scalp.
*When restoring the neck, an additional incision may be made under the chin.
Repositioning and Tightening
* Dr. Lynch will reposition underlying facial tissues and muscles to lift and tighten sagging areas.
*Any excess fat may be sculpted, redistributed, or removed.
*The skin is draped over the newly repositioned contours, and excess skin is trimmed and removed.
Closure
*Incisions are closed with sutures.
*Bandages are applied to protect the treated area and minimize swelling.
Generally, swelling, bruising, and minor discomfort are expected after a facelift, with these symptoms occurring in the first 24 – 48 hours after surgery. You will be given medication to ease any discomfort you experience, along with a specialized compression garment to help minimize swelling. You will have a small drainage tube in place for 24 – 48 hours after surgery, which will then be removed in our office.
If your recovery goes as expected, you can return to work approximately one week after your surgery. Because swelling and bruising are more noticeable for the first two weeks after surgery, downtime is recommended.
Usually, 6 months after surgery, the swelling will be gone and your results will look astonishing.
A facelift primarily addresses the lower two-thirds of the face, including the jawline, cheeks, and neck. It does not directly lift or improve under or above your eyelids. If you’re concerned about drooping or aging around the eyes, consider blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
Yes, a deep plane facelift typically includes your neck, as this facial surgery will address sagging skin, fat deposits, and muscle laxity in both the lower face and neck.
A facelift does not treat lip lines, deep wrinkles, or creases at the corners of your mouth or at the sides of the nose. Dr. Lynch offers injectables and aesthetic treatments that can help with these concerns.
Dr. Lynch discreetly places incisions within the hairline and inside or behind the ear so they are almost entirely hidden from view. The tissue beneath the skin is lifted into a more youthful position, and then the facial skin is gently re-draped minus the wrinkles. Fat injections are performed afterward if necessary.
As with any surgical procedure, there is always a potential for scarring. However, Dr. Lynch's techniques are designed to minimize the appearance of scars.
