Lower or upper eyelid surgery can help with excessive, sagging skin or fat deposits on the upper or lower eyelid. Consider scheduling your confidential consultation today if your upper eyelid skin interferes with your vision, your natural upper eyelid crease is gone or if you just want to improve the appearance of your eyes.

If you have excessive eyelid skin, whether it’s upper or lower lid or both, creating an aged appearance or, in some severe cases –  decreasing your range of vision, with eyelid lift surgery (also called blepharoplasty), you will love your eye catching results!!

Many patients are looking for different treatments to help remove or decrease heavy, drooping eyelids. In most cases, eyelid lift procedures can help remove the excessive, sagging upper or lower eyelid skin to look more refreshed.

If excessive upper eyelid skin interferes with your vision, eyelid lift procedures can also widen your visual field if it has partially blocked your sight.

The blepharoplasty eyelid lift procedure is a very popular surgery that creates a more youthful and rested appearance in your eyes and overall facial appearance.

As we age, our skin’s elasticity decreases, and we see excess skin on the upper lid. This skin can obscure our natural crease and even cause hooding or an overhang of skin on the upper lid. Unfortunately, using expensive creams or getting more sleep will not permanently reduce these symptoms. An eyelid lift can surgically remove excess skin and herniated/protruding fat. Your incisions will be concealed in the natural upper lid crease.

If there is excess fat and skin under your lower eyelid, the eyelid lift is a simple procedure that involves a fine small incision below the lash line to remove fat and skin together. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar. This procedure will heal naturally over 24 hours and requires no stitches. This is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

As we age, our skin's elasticity decreases, and we begin to see excess skin on the upper lid that can obscure our natural crease and even cause hooding or an overhang of skin on the upper lid. Unfortunately, no amount of rest or creams will permanently reduce these symptoms.

What is an eyelid lift? The medical term for an eyelid lift is blepharoplasty. This procedure surgically removes excess fat, and skin from the upper and lower eyelids to redefine the shape of your eye.

Incisions are concealed in the natural upper lid crease during an upper eyelid lift procedure. If there is excess fat and skin under the lower lid, a fine incision below the lash line is made to remove fat and skin together. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar. This will heal naturally over 24 hours and requires no stitches. This is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty.

After eyelid surgery, you can expect a rested, brighter, more youthful appearance.

An upper eyelid lift can be helpful if you have excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision, or if you have lost your natural upper eyelid crease due to puffy fat pouches. If your face seems tired or aged because of dark circles or puffy fat in the lower lids, then a lower eyelid lift will provide a more youthful and rested appearance.

The best patients for any type of plastic surgery are healthy, non-smokers. If you have dry eyes, please consult your ophthalmologist before planning eyelid surgery. After eyelid surgery, you can expect a rested, brighter more youthful appearance. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can be a cosmetic or functional surgery to correct or enhance the appearance around your eyes. This procedure can improve your vision by removing excess skin, fat, or muscle. There are several types of eyelid surgery, including:

Upper Eyelid Lift
This targets droopy or sagging upper eyelids. It removes the excess skin and fat, creating a more youthful, alert appearance. It can improve your vision if your sagging eyelids are blocking your sight. An upper eyelid lift is often performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons.

Lower Eyelid Lift
This procedure mainly focuses on removing puffy bags or sagging under your eyes. It also reduces excess skin, fat, or muscle to smooth the under-eye area. This surgery often addresses dark circles and improves the contour of the lower eyelid area.

Double Eyelid Surgery (Asian Blepharoplasty)
This procedure creates a visible upper eyelid crease for patients with a monolid. It is very popular among patients of Asian descent who change their eye appearance by creating a defined crease. This surgery can be done using incisional or non-incisional (suture) methods.

Ptosis Surgery (Eyelid Lift for Drooping Eyelids)
This procedure corrects the ptosis, a condition where the upper eyelid droops due to weak muscles. It also lifts the eyelid by tightening the levator muscle responsible for eyelid elevation. Most patients have this surgery done for both cosmetic and medical reasons if their vision is obstructed.

Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty
This is a specialized lower eyelid surgery that removes or repositions fat without an external incision. It is ideal for younger patients with under-eye bags but no excess skin.

Each type of eyelid lift surgery is tailored to our patient's needs, whether for aesthetic or medical necessity.
Please contact the leading facial Surgeon Today, Dr. Sheilah A. Lynch, to help determine which type might be right for you.

This outpatient procedure takes about an hour under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

Recovery is mostly the same for both upper and lower eyelid lift. The main difference is that upper eyelid surgeries involve a suture removal in the office 1 week after the procedure.  Initial mild discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Bruising around the eye area lasts from 5 to 7 days and can be hidden with make-up or sunglasses. Swelling progressively disappears in 1 to 2 weeks.

Eye makeup can be used after sutures are removed. Contact lenses can be worn when comfortable — usually within 7 to 10 days. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us.

Eyelid Concerns

If you have droopy upper eyelids, a good option to correct this condition is upper eyelid surgery or ptosis correction surgery, depending on the cause.

Upper Blepharoplasty – Removes excess skin and fat to lift and refresh the upper eyelid.
Ptosis Surgery – Tightens the levator muscle if the eyelid droop is due to muscle weakness.

Bags under the eyes are usually a cosmetic concern, however, they can be caused by a number of things such as Aging, Genetics, Fluid Retention, Sun Damage, Smoking & Alcohol.

If you’re considering under eyelid surgery, the best option is a lower blepharoplasty. It removes or repositions fat and excess skin under the eyes for a smoother, more youthful look.

After major weight loss, especially after using medications like Ozempic, can make your eyelids look droopy, heavy, and tired. Eyelid surgery, is very useful to  eliminate excess and tightening loose skin in the eyelids giving you a more youthful and alert look. It can be performed on the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or even both, depending on your needs.

Under eye hollowing is a common problem. It can be due to aging and sometimes be seen in younger patients. This also can be caused by the loss of collagen and elastin due to a few reason including dehydration, lack of sleep, genetics as well. A lower eyelid lift with fat transfer surgery will remove excess fat from under eye bags and redistribute it into hollow areas.
