Thigh Lift Surgery

A thigh lift (Thighplasty) can reduce the size and shape from your thighs. It works by removing excess fat and sagging skin from both your inner and outer thighs or both. Receiving a thigh lift if you’ve lost a lot of weight will dramatically improve the appearance of your legs.

thigh lift, or thighplasty, reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and your lower body. It also relieves pain and irritation that occurs when your thighs continuously rub against each other.

If fitness and weight control efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical lift may be right for you.

The combined effects of gravity, fluctuations in weight, and a loss of skin elasticity all contribute to loss of tone in the thighs as we age. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure to remove skin and fat from the thighs to tighten the skin and improve the contour of the thighs. Thigh lift surgery can drastically improve the appearance of your thighs.

Thigh lifts are not done just for the removal of excess fat alone. With the addition of liposuction, excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity can be removed.

In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a thigh lift along with liposuction may be recommended.

You may consider getting a thigh lift if you have lost a significant amount of weight.

Major Weight Loss Can Cause:

  • Cellulite or Dimpled Skin
  • Rashes or Chafing
  • Discoloration
  • Sagging Skin

Different Types Of Thigh Surgery

Inner Thigh Lift procedures are performed on patients with excess skin only on their inner thighs. When the inner skin laxity is alot and uncomfortable, a vertical incision is made down to the knees. This is also called a vertical thigh lift. The result is slimmer thighs and the desirable “thigh gap.”

Medial Thigh Lift is when incisions are made on both sides of the groin, extending back to the butt crease. Medial thigh lifts are recommended for patients with both upper and inner skin laxity. This incision pattern hides any resulting scars in natural creases.

Outer Thigh Lift, also called a lateral or bilateral thigh lift, this procedure uses incisions on both hips that extend forward and backward. The outer thigh lift offers dramatic contoured results. This is often combined with a BBL (Butt Lift) and is often called the “Body Lift.”

Mini Thigh Lift are for patients who have minor skin laxity on their upper third of the thigh benefit most from this procedure. A mini thigh lift uses a shorter incision near the groin area, which leaves the least amount of scarring.

Posterior Thigh Lift helps to correct the back of the thigh as well as lower butt area, where skin may be excessively sagging. This procedure can reduce the appearance of cellulite.Once the appropriate amount of skin has been removed and tissue is repositioned, Dr. Lynch will suture the incisions. Bandages and a compression garment will then be placed. The results of a thigh lift are immediate, but continue to improve over the course of a year.

LIPOSUCTION OF THE THIGHS

The outer thigh is treated most often by liposuction alone. Pockets of fatty tissue in this area are often called “saddlebags” and respond well to liposuction. Fat distribution in the saddlebag area of otherwise thin patients may sometimes be hereditary. Since the bony support of the outer thigh allows draping of minor excess skin, more aggressive liposuction can be performed. It is rare that a lateral thigh lift is needed if you have not experienced massive weight loss.

In massive weight loss patients, when the skin of the outer thigh sags, it is usually in conjunction with the buttocks.

In this case, the outer thigh lift is performed together with a BBl (Butt Lift)

When you come for your consultation, Dr. Lynch will evaluated your legs to see if thigh lift is appropriate for you. If your thighs have a lot of excess fatty tissue it might be best to do liposuction first to get rid of as much of the excess tissue as possible.

After a few months, Dr. Sheilah Lynch will evaluate your thighs to see if you would benefit from a thigh lift after your liposuction procedure. If the skin of the inner thigh sags or is droopy, a thigh lift is ideal as it will tighten up the skin and smooth the appearance of the inner thigh. In most cases, both procedures can be done together.

The Thighplasty (Thigh Lift) Process

Your Consult

During your initial consultation, you and Dr. Lynch will work together to discuss your concerns and desired results. Dr. Lynch will examine you as well as take photographs to help with the planning and performing of your thigh lift surgery. Finally, you’ll receive important instructions to prepare for your procedure, a quote, and an explanation of the results you can expect to achieve.

The Procedure

A thighplasty is performed under general anesthesia for safety and comfort. You will be evaluated at the time of consultation to see if a thigh lift is appropriate for you. If your thighs have a lot of excess fatty tissue, you may be advised to do liposuction. If you have hypertrophic skin, and if the skin of the inner thigh sags or is droopy, a thigh lift is ideal as it will tighten the skin and smooth the appearance of the inner thigh. The outer thigh is treated by liposuction alone. Pockets of fatty tissue found in the outer thigh, or “Saddlebags” respond well to liposuction. If you have experienced massive weight loss, a lateral thigh lift may be advised.  A thighplasty may be performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures.

Your Recovery

The patient will go home wearing a compression garment covering the thigh area. This may be an above the knee or below the knee compression garment that you will wear for the first few weeks after surgery. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.  You will have a drain that will need to be removed 3 days after surgery.

After Your Surgery (Post)

The sutures are removed within 9 to 11 days in our office. You may drive a car 4 days after surgery.
