Are you interested in creating your new nose?
Nose reshaping surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to alter the size, shape, and appearance of your nose. These are the steps involved in the procedure (they can vary) based on your goals and the techniques that are required.
Beginning the process of nose reshaping surgery:
Consultation and Assessment:
Your nose reshaping journey begins with a consultation with Board Certified Maryland Plastic Surgeon Sheilah A. Lynch During your consultation, you’ll discuss your goals, concerns, and expectations for surgery. Dr. Lynch will assess your nasal anatomy, skin type, and overall health to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
Anesthesia:
The surgery is typically performed under either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
Incisions:
Dr. Lynch will make incisions, either inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or across the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils) and inside the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The choice of technique depends on the changes required.
Reshaping the Cartilage and Bone:
Dr. Lynch will then assess the underlying nasal structures, which include cartilage and bone. She will carefully reshape and sculpt these structures to achieve the desired changes.
This might involve removing or adding cartilage and adjusting bone structure to achieve the desired size, shape, and symmetry.
Tip Reshaping:
If you’re getting the tip of your nose reshaped, Dr. Lynch will work on the cartilage in that area to create the desired contour and projection.
Septum Correction:
If you have a deviated septum (the partition between the nostrils), Dr. Lynch may also perform a septoplasty to correct any breathing issues you have.
