offers breast lift surgery with or without implants to women looking to create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to their breasts. Dr. Lynch can help you feel better about your breast size, look and feel by providing a simple, yet safe operation to correct any breast issues or problems.

A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to help women lift & reshape their breasts to restore a more youthful, attractive look. Many things can cause breast tissue sagging. One factor is age. It is very common for your breasts to lose their firmness and begin to sag as the result of gravity, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. While the procedure does not make your breasts larger or fuller, it can help slow down these issues by restoring the stretched skin in the breasts. It can also be effective for minimizing the size of the areola (the dark pigmentation surrounding your nipple). A breast lift combined with augmentation can help to increase the fullness of your upper breast, especially if you have lost breast fullness from past pregnancies.

A breast lift (mastopexy) is intended to give you an elevated, more youthful breast contour, as well as nipple areolar complexes of the desired size and at the correct height.

You could consider combining this with a breast augmentation surgery, adding a saline or silicone filled implant. Breast implants are placed either below the pectoral muscle (sub-muscular) or directly behind the breast tissue (sub-mammary)—to increase breast size, fill up excess skin, enhance breast shape, and create firmer, more symmetrical breasts.

MASTOPLEXTY EXPLAINED - WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?

Concentric Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Concentric or Periarolar (around the areola) mastopexy is usually performed for a small amount
of breast ptosis. The design of the incisions is around the areola only. Excess skin is removed from around the areola in a donut shape and a purse string suture or stitch is used to keep the incision small and to elevate the areola. An implant may be needed if volume needs to be replaced.

Standard Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

A standard mastopexy is used if the nipple areola is low and the excess skin is too great to correct the problem with a periareolar (around the areola) lift alone. The design of the incisions can vary, but usually includes incisions around the nipple areola complex and a vertical incision below the areola that extends to the fold under the breast. A third incision in the crease under the breast may also be needed.

Dr. Lynch will determine and help you to decide which breast corrective surgery is right for you. An additional procedure which may enhance your results are having a small breast reduction combined with liposuction of the axillary area and lateral chest wall (sides).

Have Your Tried The Pencil Test?

It’s a simple way to determine if you may be ready for a breast lift.

Take pencil and stand facing a mirror with your bra removed, and slide the pencil along the bottom crease of your breast until it is positioned fully beneath the breast and let it go.

If the pencil remains in place, it is being held by the weight of your breast tissue.

If it falls to the floor, your breast tissue is not “resting” on your chest, this will happen because nothing is holding it down.

As this is a simple and informal test, it’s a good indicator of whether or not your breast tissue has begun to drop and “rest” on your chest.

If your breast tissue has started to sag, call us today to schedule your consultation.

The Mastopexy
(Breast Lift) Process

Your Consult

During your initial consultation, you and Dr. Lynch will work together to discuss your concerns and desired results. Dr. Lynch will examine you as well as take photographs to help with the planning and performing of your breast lift surgery. Finally, you’ll receive important instructions to prepare for your procedure, a quote, and an explanation of the results you can expect to achieve.

The Procedure

Breast lifts are done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The design of the incisions will vary based on the amount of excess skin and the level of the nipple areola complex. During a breast lift, the nipple areolar complex is repositioned higher, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped in a pleasing contour and in a more normal position. If breast volume has been lost, the insertion of an implant may be advisable.

Your Recovery

The patient goes home with only light dressings over the incision lines and in an elastic bra. The bra helps hold the breasts in the correct position. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures are usually removed in 7 to 12 days. You may shower 48 hours after surgery in which you will then switch from the elastic bra into a full coverage racerback bra.

After Your Surgery (Post)

Light activities may be started in 5 to 7 days. A support bra is worn for 6 weeks. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us.
