The term “Mommy Makeover” is used in Plastic Surgery frequently to imply that more than one cosmetic procedure has been performed in a “mom” who has finished having children.
First, the surgery addresses the breast tissue, which is often affected by pregnancy:
Postpartum Involution-Loss of breast tissue after pregnancy with or without breastfeeding—Requiring Breast Implants
Postpartum Breast Enlargement- Requiring Breast Reduction
Postpartum Loss of Elasticity in the Breast Skin Resulting in Ptosis (sagging breasts) —Requiring Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Second, the surgery addresses the abdominal area:
Excess Abdominal Fatty Tissue Resistant to Diet and Exercise (Low Abdominal Pouch)—Requiring Abdominal Liposuction
Loose Abdominal Muscles, Excess Skin and Excess Abdominal Fatty Tissue—Requiring Abdominoplasty.
Abdominal contouring with liposuction or LIPO 360 is best suited for patients with good skin elasticity and a moderate amount of excess subcutaneous fatty tissue. Most patients are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes.
A Tummy Tuck Combined with LIPO 360 of the abdomen is a very popular procedure in Chevy Chase and Easton, Maryland.
Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia in a hospital or surgery center as an outpatient procedure. There are a variety of different types of abdominoplasties that can be done. This will vary from patient to patient. Mini-abdominoplasties can sometimes be performed under sedation and local anesthesia.
A mini-abdominoplasty addresses the lower portion of the abdomen and has the shortest incision. Liposuction is usually used in the upper and lower abdomen but skin is only removed from the lower abdomen. Abdominal muscles are tightened from the level of the navel to the level of the pubic bone. Weakened muscle above the navel is not addressed.
A standard abdominoplasty will help with the upper and lower abdomen and includes tightening of the muscles above and below the navel, removal of excess skin, and liposuction for contouring. The incision for this procedure is low and usually stays within the hip bones. A small incision is also made inside the belly button.
An extended abdominoplasty addresses all the same issues as a standard abdominoplasty, but in addition, it addresses additional excess skin of the flanks and the hip region. This procedure is usually reserved for those who have had massive weight loss. This incision is the longest and extends beyond the hip bones and onto the hip (hidden in the bikini line). Some patients may even require skin removal from their back making the incision circumferential. This is often called a “belt lipectomy” and leaves the scar where you belt would typically be found.

Having a good relationship helps to set expectations and eliminate surprises during the process.
The cost of a mommy makeover depends on what surgical procedures you decide are right for you and your budget.
On the day of your surgery, Dr. Lynch will meet with you in the pre-operative holding area to answer last-minute questions, review the procedural plan and place anatomic markings on your surgical sites.
A Mommy Makeover is typically a combination of either a breast augmentation, reduction or lift combined with a tummy tuck to provide you with the best results and target any areas affected by pregnancy. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia for safety and comfort.
Dr. Lynch always tries to minimize your discomfort, keeping the incisions as small as possible and shortening your downtime to help you take back your body, and restoring your confidence!
Combined surgical procedures require more time for recovery periods.
Once your surgery is completed, you will go home with a compression garment that covers your abdominal area. Compression is advised for about a month after surgery as it helps reduce swelling after liposuction. You will also go home wearing an elastic bra that you will need to wear for the first 48 hours.
You may have a drain that will need to be removed at your follow-up appointment right after surgery in our office. Any sutures will be removed within 9 to 11 days.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us.
During your pregnancy, with hormonal changes that cause your breasts to enlarge, and breastfeeding prolongs engorgement, may cause your breasts to deflate, lose tone, drop lower on your chest, and possibly become asymmetrical. The upper portion or part of the breast flattens, which reduces the cleavage line, and the lower portion of the breast may appear sagging or hanging downward.
In some cases, your areola may widen, and ductal scarring can cause the nipples to invert (inverted nipples). None of these post-pregnancy changes will correct themselves naturally; however, all of them can be improved through breast surgery.
BREAST SURGERY OPTIONS:
If you are considering liposuction alone, however you have a lack of skin elasticity, if there is excess hanging skin in your lower abdomen (typically seen after pregnancy, weight gain with subsequent weight loss, and aging), or skin with stretch marks you may think about a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure.
Other considerations may include:
POOR PAST LIPOSUCTION
