Our laser hair removal treatments use advanced technology from Palomar. Palomar hair removal technology uses a specialized hand piece that emits pulses of light into the hair. This light is absorbed by the pigmentation in the hair follicle, causing heat to travel down the hair shaft. This heat is then transferred down through the hair follicle causing the hair to loosen and damage to the cells responsible for new growth.

What areas can be treated?

All areas, except around the eyes, can be effectively treated. Best result are achieved on darker, coarser hair. Common areas to be treated are bikini, underarm, legs, arms, upper lip, chin, and face. Both men and women can benefit from this service and men most commonly have back, shoulders and chest treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Hair removal is accomplished in a series of two to six sessions generally administered at four to eight week intervals depending on the areas you are treating. Due to constant cycles of hair growth, multiple treatments are necessary. Hair that may have been dormant, in a non-growth phase (telogen) during your previous treatment, may now be in a growth phase (anagen), resulting in hair growth between laser treatments. Between treatments you may shave if desired. Multiple sessions ensures that all the hairs in their active phase have been effectively treated. Permanent hair reduction can be expected in 80 to 90 percent of appropriate candidates. After your initial completed series, many patients find that maintenance sessions done a few times a year are ideal for treatment of any minimal regrowth.

What can be expected during treatment?

Prior to your treatment, your skin type will be evaluated and your light setting customized for maximum effectiveness. You will be given safety eye wear to protect your eyes from the light emitted during treatment. A thin layer of transparent gel will be applied to the area being treated. The hand piece will be moved over the desired area, you will detect the light during treatment, and feel a mild heat sensation.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately following your laser treatment, the area may appear a bit red. You may apply a cool compress as needed. Treated areas should be protected from direct exposure to sunlight for 3-5 days. Hair will begin to fall out within the next week.

What is the difference between laser hair removal and electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, laser hair removal effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.
