Breast Reduction for Women

Ask US about Medical Insurance Covered Breast Reduction. Don’t let heavy breasts leave you with back and shoulder pain.

Breast reduction surgery is a good choice if you have large, dense, heavy breasts, which can cause back, neck and shoulder pain, poor posture, bra strap groves on your shoulders and chafing under the breasts. You may also desire this procedure if you have excessive breast size, which may decrease a sense of attractiveness and self confidence. If large breasts interfere with normal daily activities or with exercise, a breast reduction may be helpful.

Breast Reduction is intended to give you a more attractive contour and smaller breast size as well as freedom from health problems associated with excessively large breasts.

Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia in a surgery center or hospital as a same day surgery. Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple areolar complex) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple areolar complex is moved upward to the desired location, and excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed.

The incisions are covered with light dressings, and the breasts are placed in a compression bra for 48 hours. After 48 hours you may shower and change into a support bra that is worn for 6 weeks. This bra helps to contour the breast during initial healing. Initial discomfort subsides over the first few days and can be controlled with oral medication. Scars will usually fade in 6 to 12 months.

Breast Reduction can be covered by insurance. However, as insurance criteria becomes more and more restrictive, Dr. Sheilah A. Lynch will have to evaluate if you can be a candidate for medical insurance coverage. Please contact Ashley Bunne, who is available to assist you in obtaining pre-authorization. If the procedure is considered cosmetic, you will receive a quote for out of pocket costs including, anesthesia, facility and surgeon fees.
